The 16 Personality Factors Questionnaire (16PF®) can be used to support development when used as part of a team workshop. It is a trait-based personality questionnaire developed and first published by Raymond Cattell back in 1949. Therefore, it is well established and well researched. Cattell applied scientific rigour in his approach, and unlike Freud or Jung, he did not have a theory of personality. Cattell's goal was to empirically determine and measure the essence of personality. Therefore, the questionnaire is based on factor analysis, and from this Cattell also derived five Global Factors which correspond fairly closely to the ‘Big five personality traits’. The 16 Personality Factors defines our basic, underlying personality, without regard to how we apply it or the environment in which we apply it. It is proven to create a fairly accurate picture of someone’s personality. There are also multiple factors and therefore the combination approach of specific and multiple factors gives a more detailed understanding of personality. The report is supported by 45 minutes of professional telephone feedback and personal development discussion to the individual from a trained and experienced consultant. When used to support on-going development, feedback can be provided to the individual and within the feedback there can be development discussion and coaching.
